The track follows the Waihāhā River through shrubland into dense podocarp forest. The Waihāhā Hut is in a clearing overlooking the river where the track meets the Hauhungaroa Track.
There is a small camping area beside the hut.

Facilities: 10 bunk beds, heating, mattresses, toilets - non-flush, water from tap - not treated, boil before use
Bookings not required - first come, first serve
Getting There:
From SH32 (Western Bay Road), turn into the carpark for the Taupo Great Lake Trail (south of the Waihāhā Road turnoff). Cross the road from the carpark, go over the small bridge and you'll see the start of the track.
